Update on this Website
From 2015 to 2017 this website functioned pretty well, but upkeep was demanding and interest inadequate to make this the genuinely vibrant place it was intended to be. In 2018 Dan Vito, its author, abandoned it. So here it sits until someone else chooses to step in and try a different approach. What we seem to have in Western PA is lots of small communities and no interest in one global overarching community.
The WPAPotters Association is a community of Western Pennsylvania potters. Our goal is to strengthen our community: to share ideas, have fun, learn about pottery-related topics, and help one another. All potters are invited to participate, from beginners and students to professionals and collectors. Bring your enthusiasm, passion and excitement and let’s work together. Whether you are a pottery “newbe,” or want to set up a shared studio space, or a seasoned pro, there is always room to grow, explore and share.

For many years Dan Vito had been thinking about the need for a local group, specifically for potters, that would be focused, inclusive, and non-juried. In the summer of 2015, he broached the idea to Terry Rorison. Terry is a guy who gets things done! So we invited a few people with affiliations to some local organizations like the PCA, MCG, and Union Project, and Fireborn Studios, and a few professional potters to give us some input, and got started hosting our first event in September of 2015.
At this time Christy Culp (2 Pears Pottery), Michelle Clesse (Union Project), Karen McKee (PCA and Robyn’s Nest Pottery), and Daniel Vito (Fireborn Studios) are doing most of the planning. If you support our goals, please get involved, participate, leave comments on this website and help keep things going.
